Sod Installation in Waco, TX
New lawns, dead lawns, builder-special back yards. We prep the dirt, lay fresh St. Augustine, Bermuda or Zoysia sod, and tell you exactly how to water it so it actually takes.

What a sod job looks like
Most Waco sod jobs take one day. Bigger yards or ones that need a lot of grading can take two. Here's how it goes:
- We look at the yard. Measure it, check the soil, check the drainage, and give you a price.
- Prep. Kill or strip the old grass and weeds, rake out rocks, loosen the soil, add topsoil where it's thin, and grade it so water drains away from the house.
- Lay the sod. Fresh-cut pallets, staggered seams, cut tight around beds and sidewalks, then rolled so the roots touch the dirt.
- Water. We give it the first soak and leave you a simple watering schedule for the next few weeks.
Sod grasses that do well in Waco
Three grasses handle Central Texas heat. Which one is right mostly comes down to how much shade your yard gets.
St. Augustine
Wide blades, deep green, handles some shade. The most common lawn in Waco. Needs regular water in summer.
Bermuda
Loves full sun and heat, spreads fast, bounces back from kids and dogs. Thins out in shade.
Zoysia
Thick and soft like carpet. Slower to fill in, but once it's set it holds up well and uses a bit less water.

How much does sod cost in Waco?
Installed sod around Waco usually quotes somewhere around $1.20 to $2.25 per square foot. Where you land depends on how much prep the yard needs, which grass you pick, and how easy it is to get a pallet to your yard. A pallet of sod covers roughly 400 to 500 square feet. We'll give you a real number after we measure. There's a longer breakdown in our sod cost post.
Waco soil is the tricky part
East of the Brazos and across most of McLennan County you're on Blackland Prairie clay. It's rich soil, but it shrinks and cracks in a dry August and goes sticky after a rain. Up west, toward Woodway and McGregor, the soil gets thin over limestone. Either way, sod does best when it goes down on loosened, level dirt with a little topsoil, not on whatever the builder left behind.

Questions people ask
Can you lay sod in summer?
Yes. Warm-season sod roots fastest in warm weather. Summer just means more watering, sometimes twice a day the first week. See best time to lay sod.
Do I need to be home?
Not for the install, as long as we can get into the yard and the gate's unlocked. We'll want to meet you or talk on the phone for the estimate.
Can you just do the back yard?
Sure. Front, back, one side, a strip by the driveway. We quote what you want done.
